My friends enjoying the Fall weather! |
Fall is a season of change. Kids go back to school, leaves turn color and drop from the trees — and while the holidays beckon from the near future, the weather grows steadily colder. What better time to reignite the loving bond between you and your pet? We’ve gathered up 13 of our favorite ways to fall in love with your pet all over again, and we hope they help make this shivery season a little warmer for pet lovers everywhere.
1. Change your social network profile picture to a photo of your pet. Not only will you be showing your love of pets to others, but the photo may also remind you of how much your pet really means to you.
2. Why not take some time to pamper your pet? Take a spa day at home or at the groomer. There are dog spas and cat spas, too!
3. Teach your dog or cat a new trick or two. Pets love to learn new things, and we humans could always learn a little more of the patience and understanding required to teach them.
4. Sometimes caring for an additional pet brings a new perspective. If you think it might be time to bring home a new companion for your resident pet, take a look at what Petfinder has to offer.
5. Make more time for a little extra unconditional love and affection with your pet, maybe when you get up in the morning and before you go to bed.
6. Take an extra long walk with your dog — or your cat if she’s leash trained — preferably along a route where you’ll be able to take in some fall foliage along the way.
7. If your pets are good with strangers, ask about bringing them to a local nursing home to brighten someone's day! It will surely brighten yours.
8. Refresh your memory about why cats make the purrfect companions, or check out these 11 reasons we could never live without dogs!
9. Up your pet-care game by getting more involved with your pet’s dental care.
10. If you have a cat, why not upgrade her litter? If you have a dog, take him for a walk on a new route. Freshening up the messy part of pet ownership is yet another opportunity to bond.
11. Get your pet a new game or toy, and consider getting one for a shelter pet, too. Shelters can also use extra grocery bags, newspapers, or even gently used toys. You’ll help a pet in need and appreciate your own pet that much more.
12. Get your pet a holiday sweater. Just make sure it’s specifically made for pets; doesn’t obstruct your pet’s ability to see, walk, or breathe; and is quiet (no bells or squeakers) so as not to startle or annoy your pet.
13. Have an extended cuddle session on the couch with your pet and one of your favorite pet-themed movies.
So there you have it — plenty of ways to get closer to your pet and hopefully have more warm & snuggly fun with him or her all season long.
